Trip Overview

So, here is our blog! Not being technologically savvy might pose a challenge, but we will keep it simple. I will update this when I can and/or when we have a good Internet connection. You can visit the site whenever, or join and get updates emailed to you (I think!).

A quick overview of our trip: We will fly into Santiago, Chile and then travel south on Pachamama by Bus (basically, a backpacker bus that we are crossing our fingers isn't too hippie-ish!). We will end up in the Lake District of Chile, then cross into the Lake District of Argentina, spending Christmas renting a cabin in the national forest near the town of San Carlos de Bariloche.
After that, our plans get a bit less clear, but we will cross to the Atlantic side of Argentina and see the sea life (penguins, dolphins, orcas etc...) of the Valdez Peninsula, visit the beaches of Uruguay, see the Iguassu waterfalls in the far northeast corner of Argentina and spend a little time in Buenos Aires. We will fly home from there!

I have had many ask us why we are doing this or what prompted us to take this trip. The best answer I can give is that both Duncan and I feel strongly about teaching our girls what life is like in other parts of the world. Not everyone has malls, Costco, schools or even roofs overhead. We hope to get to see how others live and bring home a bit of humility with us. And, while this trip might have its challenges, and cause the girls to fall a little behind in school, the lifetime of memories and lessons will be immeasurable.
Thanks to all our family and friends for your encouragement and support! It means a ton to us.
Adios!
